It's a Fair!

November 17th, 2009 by Alan Okami

Kalihi got a lot going on and I am happy to report that my blog is starting to get the community involved in providing content. Mahalo to Ms. Okita of Fern Elementary for letting me know the scoops at their school.

It's a Health and Wellness Fair! Everyone knows the perils of schools these days, as if the furloughs weren't enough. The Fair is a way for the community to come and share in what is being shared with the children in making good, healthy choices in daily life. It's also one of the schools fundraisers.

Principal and Vice Principals Kapololu and Uli'i say, it's not all about fundraising, but also to get the community involved in what the school is sharing with the keiki. Fern is partners with KAUPA (the stream management people of Kalihi) and go on monthly service missions to keep Kalihi's waterways free and clear of waste and blockage.

Of course there's a ton of fun planned as well. This is the projected site of the ever famous Dunking Booth. I hear that my host, the lovely Ms. Okita, has been co-erced into making an appearance in the booth. Oh oh.

In the cafeteria, there will be exhibits, including healty cooking, crafts and a country store. Performances throughout the day by students and special guests.

My host and new Twitter friend, Ms. Okita, pictured on the right. Ready to get wet? Watch out, I been throwing baseball with my two sons....

Come on down to Fern. The school is located in the heart of Kalihi, right up the street from Love's Bakery. As I always say, Kalihi has so much to offer and share. Mahalo to Ms. Okita for bringing this to my attention.

Let's see now....a grown man with two sons he tosses the ball around with trying to unseat so to speak a lovely lady? What happened to chivalry??? I think that you should be in the booth too--maybe Rocky who has a good left throwing arm could come by and toss a ball or two! And remember, when you eventually hit the H2O, it is lovely in Anaheim in January, but I digress..........

    Keahi Pelayo,
Mahalo braddah! I'm sure it will be a great time.

    Kawika,
Mmmm, Anaheim, calling me.....As for Ms Okita, she's safe for now. The dunking booth is broken. I'm sure she's heartbroken. Me, toss right or left. No matter, I'm awesome.

    M,
Unfortunately, it's that time of the year where any sliver of freedom disappears. Yes sir, it's baseball time. Guess where I'll be?
